Forest Mushroom Baby Nursery

Before we started building this house we knew (& hoped) this would be our next baby’s nursery. My mind filled with ideas before the room was framed. A forest mushroom nursery wasn’t exactly the first thing that came to mind but I do love the result!

I didn’t want to buy all new furniture since our toddler wasn’t using the crib anymore and we could get him a more simple rocker since we only use it to read books now.

Choosing a Theme

I knew I wanted to do an outdoorsy theme. Our first’s nursery was mountain theme with a big mountain mural as an accent wall but I wanted something different.

I considered doing a forest theme with a mural of trees but 1. Murals are expensive! And 2. I couldn’t find any that were unique enough.

Choosing a Forest Mushroom Wallpaper

I started looking for “forest wallpaper”  on Pinterest and found this amazing wallpaper from Etsy. I call it forest floor because of the foliage, moths and mushrooms. It’s a little strange and hippie and I love it!

It comes in peel and stick and pre-pasted wallpaper. I chose the pre-pasted option. Lightly wet the back of the wallpaper, apply it to the wall and smooth it out.

It was easy to apply once you got each sheet lined up.

Other unique wallpaper and theme ideas for a boys nursery I like are below. Search them in Pinterest and see what you think!

  • World map accent wall
  • Planes
  • Vintage cars
  • Checkered
  • Dogs
  • Western
  • National parks

To cut cost and add to my vision for the accent wall, my husband added board and batten to the bottom portion of the wall. This cut the wallpaper cost in half since I only wallpapered the top portion of the wall. Who knew wallpaper was so expensive?

Choosing an Accent Paint

For paint, I was between painting the wood treatment dark green or black but ultimately went with black to make the wallpaper really pop. I got a few questioning looks about painting a nursery black but I love it!

I used Sherwin Williams tricorn black and it’s the perfect “true” black with no real undertones.

Decor and Cozies

My husband built the simple floating shelves, which I painted green. We got the solid wood dresser from Home Depot and stained it a medium wood tone.

I added a 5×7 rug from At Home to warm up our dark floors. I had my husband hang these curtains “high and wide, baby! High and wide.” He thinks it’s silly but I think it looks fancy!

Simple, clean and unique. This is my favorite room in the house! I’m happy with how it turned out and I think I have plenty ideas of how I can adapt it as the baby grows into a toddler and little boy.

Let me know what you think! Would you put a mushroom wallpaper in your baby’s room?
