breastmilk supply boosting no-bake lactation balls

Quick, easy and satisfies a sweet tooth- these lactation balls check all the boxes.

No pre heating the oven, no waiting for them to cool. No-bake recipes are my favorite.

This recipe is for chocolate chip “lactation balls.” Although I haven’t read the research, I do personally feel like they boost my milk supply on days I eat them vs I don’t …. plus, I never turn down a good excuse to eat chocolate chips.

The three ingredients in this recipe that are said to impact milk supply are oats, flaxseed and brewer’s yeast.

Benefits of Oats:

Oats are rich in iron, which is essential for breastfeeding moms as we have a higher demand for iron. They also contain fiber, which can increase the prolactin hormone, which is required for milk production.

Benefits of Flaxseed:

Flaxseed is also thought to increase prolactin levels to enhance breast milk supply. It also is a phytoestrogen, which can positively affect supply.

Benefits of Brewers Yeast:

Brewers Yeast is high in B vitamins and other nutrients which  increase milk supply.

Below is my favorite recipe for lactation balls, which I found here from ExclusivelyPumping.com

Lactation Ball Ingredients:

  • 1 cup oatmeal quick cooking or old-fashioned
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp flax seed
  • 1 tbsp brewer’s yeast
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup mini M&Ms

I usually skip the M&Ms but only because I never have them on hand. Sometimes I’ll add extra chocolate chips to replace them, other times I just leave them as is.

How to Make these Lactation Balls:

Measure everything out and pour it into a big bowl.

Mix all ingredients together

Put in fridge for about an hour to let it get clumpy and less sticky

Use a cookie dough scoop to form them into balls

Keep them in the fridge and enjoy!

Nutrition:

Usually this recipe will make me about 9 balls, using the cookie dough scoop. With 9 balls the nutrition is as follows per ONE ball:

Carbs 19 g

Fat 6 g

Protein 4 g

Calories 146 kcal

These lactations balls are pretty simple to make and taste like a treat with great benefits to milk supply. I usually eat 2-3 per day. They are a little high in calories per ball, but that’s probably one of the benefits of them since breastfeeding does require a higher calorie intake!
